Imran Khan seeks PAC reshuffle, Akbar to step down

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has instructed party MNA Junaid Akbar to step down from his position as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), party sources confirmed on Monday.

According to insiders, the directive was conveyed by Khan’s sister Aleema Khan in writing to Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja. The note asked Akbar to relinquish the post and focus entirely on party mobilisation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly the coordination of upcoming rallies and conventions.

Akbar currently serves as PTI’s provincial president for KP.

Sources said Omar Ayub is expected to be named as the new PAC chairman following Akbar’s exit. Ayub already heads the party’s federal parliamentary wing and has been handling high-level legislative coordination.

In a brief comment, Junaid Akbar said he would follow instructions once formally directed. “The moment Imran Khan asks me, I will resign from the PAC chairmanship,” he stated.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja declined to offer public remarks, saying only that it was an “internal matter.”
