Punjab sets up security control rooms at district level amid rising tensions

LAHORE: The Punjab government has activated a comprehensive security and emergency response plan following heightened tensions between Pakistan and India. The Provincial Intelligence Centre (PIC) has established an Internal Security Control Room that operates around the clock, directing district administrations to set up local control rooms for real-time coordination.

A high-priority circular issued by the PIC mandates the immediate establishment of district control rooms. The central hub, led by Deputy Director Muhammad Shahzad Ahmad Khan and Assistant Director Tahir Mahmood, will monitor law and order through dedicated hotlines.

The plan includes securing key installations, placing law enforcement and medical staff on duty, and ensuring hospitals remain on high alert. Emergency medical supplies, blood banks, and civil defense sirens have been activated, with shelters identified and made operational. Schools and colleges were closed on Wednesday, and exams were postponed indefinitely.

Inspector General of Police Dr. Usman Anwar confirmed coordination with civil defense, Rescue 1122, and the military, with more than 3,000 emergency responders and ambulances on standby. Citizens were advised to remain vigilant, and in the event of sirens, to proceed to designated shelters.
