20 PTI workers sentenced to jail for May 9 rioting, Sanam Javed remanded

An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi on Monday sentenced 20 PTI workers to six months in prison and fined them Rs50,000 each after they confessed to their involvement in the May 9 rioting. The court ruled in a case involving vandalism and the attack on a railway station during nationwide protests following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. Arrest warrants were also issued for absconding accused.

Meanwhile, a judicial magistrate denied the police’s request for further custody of PTI leader Sanam Javed but also rejected her plea for discharge from the charges of rioting. Javed, arrested on April 28 for allegedly leading anti-state activities in Lahore, was sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand after her six-day police custody expired.
