At least 24 killed in terrorist attack in IIOJK

PAHALGAM: At least 24 tourists were killed when gunmen opened fire in the popular resort town of Pahalgam in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on Tuesday. The attack, which occurred around 90 km from Srinagar, the region’s main city, is the deadliest civilian assault in over two decades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the killings, vowing that the government’s resolve to fight terrorism would “get even stronger.” “Their evil agenda will never succeed,” he said in a statement.

Authorities have yet to release the identities of the victims, but most were domestic tourists. Medics in nearby Anantnag treated several victims, including two with gunshot wounds and one with a neck injury. Former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti condemned the attack, with Abdullah calling it unprecedented in brutality and Mufti labeling it a cowardly act.

The incident marks the deadliest attack on civilians in more than 20 years. Investigations are ongoing, and the region remains on high alert.
