December 31 set as deadline for MPs to submit asset statements

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that all members of parliament and provincial assemblies must submit their annual statements of assets and liabilities by December 31.

This submission also includes details for their spouses and dependents.

As part of the yearly requirement, all MPs are expected to provide their asset details as of June 30 of the previous financial year, using Form B for 2023-2024. This mandate, under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017, is intended to ensure transparency in financial disclosures among public representatives.

The ECP will publish the names of members who fail to submit their asset statements on January 1. Members who do not comply by January 15 will face suspension on January 16 and will not be allowed to function until they fulfill this requirement.

Additionally, any member found to have provided false information in their statements could be prosecuted for corrupt practices within 120 days of submission.

The necessary forms and guidelines are available for free at the ECP Secretariat in Islamabad, provincial election commission offices, and can also be downloaded from the ECP’s official website (www.ecp.gov.pk).
