President orders Rs4.7m compensation for Diamer Bhasha Dam affectees

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has mandated that a compensation payment of Rs4.7 million be made to each of the 1500 affectees of the Diamer Bhasha Dam.

The directive was issued on Monday during separate meetings with Engineer Amir Muqam, the Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan, and Dr. Musaddik Malik, the Energy Minister.

In addition to addressing the compensation, President Zardari emphasised the urgent need to establish a medical college and hospital in Gilgit Baltistan (GB). He instructed the relevant departments to prioritize this development to enhance healthcare facilities in the region.

Moreover, the President directed that the scope of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) be extended to the people of GB to further support their healthcare needs.

This directive follows recent discussions where the GB governor and members of the GB Council highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the residents.

The President has expressed his commitment to addressing these issues and ensuring that the necessary measures are implemented promptly.
