Four dead in Sahiwal Hospital children’s ward blaze

SAHIWAL: The death toll from a fire at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital has risen to four, following the deaths of two more children on Sunday morning.
The tragic incident, which occurred in the hospital’s Children’s Ward, initially claimed the lives of two children on Saturday due to oxygen deprivation during the fire.

The blaze, according to firefighters, was triggered by a short-circuit. In a frantic effort, hospital staff managed to evacuate the children from the ward.

Some parents, amidst the chaos, chose to take their children home, but the disruption in oxygen supply proved fatal for two more children.

A total of five fire brigade vehicles were deployed to control and eventually extinguish the fire at the hospital.
