UK court trashes Adil Raja's appeal to waive £10,000 fine

ISLAMABAD: A UK court has dismissed controversial YouTuber Major (retd) Adil Raja's appeal to waive a £10,000 fine. The court ruled that Raja must also pay an additional £3,000.

The fine was originally imposed following a complaint by Brigadier (retd) Rashid Nasir. The British court had ordered Raja to pay £10,000 for defamation and security costs. Deputy High Court Judge Richard Spearman issued the latest ruling, denying Raja's appeal and mandating the extra payment.

Raja's appeal was filed on April 16, 2024, just a day before the original deadline for payment. The court found that Raja's defamatory statements against Brigadier Nasir had been published on his X, Facebook, and YouTube accounts.

Brigadier Nasir's legal action was initiated on August 11, 2022, following a campaign against him by Raja that began on June 14, 2022.

In the past, Raja has claimed financial hardship to garner support and funds from his followers. However, the court's ruling indicates that this plea did not convince the judges.

"The noose is tightening around those who use foreign bases to spread discord against their homeland," commented a legal expert familiar with the case.
