WATCH: Israel govt spokesperson refuses to apologise for deaths of seven food aid workers killed in “unintended” airstrike

An official spokesperson from the Israeli government declined to issue an apology following the tragic deaths of seven aid workers in Gaza, amidst escalating international criticism of the incident.

Among the casualties of an airstrike on a World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity convoy in Gaza on Monday were three British nationals.

Humza Yousaf has urgently called upon the UK Government to take immediate action following Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement attributing the workers’ deaths to an “unintended strike” by Israeli forces.

In an interview with Channel 4, Israeli spokesperson David Mencer was pressed about whether the Israeli government would apologize to the families of the deceased. He responded by expressing grief over the incident and emphasized the need to ascertain the precise details of what occurred.

Mencer further stated that various officials, including the prime minister, defense minister, and minister Gallant, had all expressed sorrow regarding the operation.

When questioned about previous statements labeling the attack as a “mistake,” Mencer continued to withhold an apology, highlighting the sanctity of delivering aid to innocent Gazans and asserting that there was no hostility towards the people of Gaza.

The interviewer pointed out contradictory reports from Cyprus indicating that aid shipments returning from Gaza would carry around 240 tons of undistributed aid, challenging the assertion that aid delivery was treated as sacred.

When questioned about Israel’s alleged bombing of the Iranian consulate in Syria, leading to the deaths of seven military advisers, Mencer declined to comment directly. However, he referred to IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari’s statement clarifying that the target was not a civilian embassy but rather a military base for Al Quds.

Mencer emphasized that the base belonged to the Al Quds force, portraying Iran’s actions as attempts to destabilize the region rather than benefitting the Palestinian people or the broader Arab world.
