PPP finalises three names for post of Punjab governor

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday finalised three names for the “prestigious post of Governor of Punjab.”

According to the party’s insiders, the frontrunners for the coveted role, include seasoned political figures – Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Nadeem Afzal Chan.

They, however, opined that Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood seemed to the top priority of the party’s leadership [for the post].

The insiders stated that Mehmood’s candidacy is not only endorsed by the PPP but also enjoys acceptance from other political parties including Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N).

The announcement comes in the wake of a power sharing formula for government formation and power-sharing unveiled jointly by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, and former President Asif Ali Zardari.

The trio convened a press conference at the historic Zardari House in Islamabad to disclose the collaborative approach towards national leadership.

During the press briefing, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed Shehbaz Sharif’s candidacy for the premiership, signaling his return to the pinnacle of executive authority.

Additionally, he disclosed Asif Ali Zardari’s nomination as the common candidate for the presidency, symbolizing a united front by the PPP and PML-N.
