Vawda anticipates ‘trading of independents’ afoot as ‘buyers’ land in capital

KARACHI: Former senator Faisal Vawda on Friday claimed the ‘sale’ of winning independent candidates has begun as the ‘potential buyers’ have camped in the federal capital for the purpose.

Speaking at a private TV channel transmission, the PTI former leader said, “Nawaz Show has come to an end and Go Nawaz Go happened.” He said it was surprising that MQM-P was leading in more than expected seats.

“If PPP sits in opposition with the independents, the country will face destruction. Unrecognised PTI-backed independent candidates will sit in treasury benches,” the former PTI leader said.

“What I am saying will prove in next 72 hours. It was expected that the independent candidates would have the upper hand.”

Vawda drew a parallel between the current political situation and the era of Prime Minister Muhammad Khan Junejo in 1985. He suggested that the influence and strategies of independent candidates would become evident within the next 72 hours, hinting at an impending power struggle.

Despite the challenges, Vawda asserted that PTI’s popularity stemmed from its own merits and the public’s disdain for the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government.

“In fact it is the will of the Pakistani people that determines the course of the nation”, former senator Vawda pointed out, adding that the disillusionment with the current political setup had propelled PTI to prominence, saying whether this momentum can withstand the machinations of entrenched interests remains to be seen.
