KP govt seeks Rs5.34b for unpaid electricity dues

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is urging the federal government to settle its substantial outstanding dues of over Rs 5.34 billion for electricity generated from provincial resources.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Power, the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) has completed six power projects across the province, contributing a combined 157-megawatt capacity to the national grid. However, there's an issue of underpayment by the federal government for this electricity.
The Ministry reports that the federal government's unpaid dues breakdown as follows: Rs 21.36 million for the 2.6-megawatt Machai Hydropower Project, Rs 3.28 million for the 1.8-megawatt Shishi Hydro Power Project, Rs 2.89 billion for the 81-megawatt Malakand III Hydro Power Project, Rs 64.5 million for the 36.6-megawatt Dara Khwar Hydro Power Project. Rs 23.59 million for the 17-megawatt Ranolia Hydro Power Project and Rs 1.32 billion for the 18-megawatt Pehur Hydro Power Project.
In total, the federal government has to pay a total Rs 5.34 billion to KP electricity generated from provincial resources.
