China vows to enhance strategic coordination with new Turkish government

ISLAMABAD: China is ready to work with the Turkish new government to enhance strategic mutual trust and coordination, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Wednesday.

Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara, Türkiye. He arrived in the capital for a one-day visit.

Wang said China and Türkiye are both representatives of emerging market countries, having broad common interests and great potential for cooperation.

China supports Türkiye to take a path of development in line with its own national conditions and play a more important role in the regional and international arena, and opposes any forces interfering in its internal affairs, Wang said.

China is willing to work with Türkiye to deepen cooperation in various fields and firmly support each other in safeguarding core interests, national security and stability, and achieve more fruitful results in China-Türkiye strategic cooperative relations, Wang noted.

He urged the two sides to make good use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, promoting the in-depth synergy between China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Türkiye’s Middle Corridor initiative, and cooperation in energy, education and culture.

China is ready to import more competitive Turkish products, support companies of the two countries to settle their trade in their own currencies, and encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Türkiye, he added.

China also stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Türkiye under multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, make the voice of emerging economies heard, uphold true multilateralism, ensure the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and oppose wrong practices such as “decoupling,” injecting more stability into a volatile world, said Wang.

Fidan said that Türkiye attaches great importance to developing relations with China.

Türkiye does not agree with the “China threat” theory in economic, scientific and technological areas, opposes practices of discrediting and containing China’s development, and will not allow activities that undermines China’s territorial integrity happen in Türkiye, he said.

Türkiye believes that the global initiative proposed by China is of strategic significance and is willing to work with China to build the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, energy, aviation, and tourism, cope with global challenges and promote the establishment of a multi-polar world.
