LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) of Punjab reserved its verdict on Monday in a case of alleged land fraud involving the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and her husband.
During the hearing of Uzma Khan’s plea for an extension in interim bail, Judge Naveed Ahmad Qureshi presided over the proceedings as both Khan and her husband, Ahad Majeed Niazi, appeared before the court.
After considering the arguments presented by both parties, the court decided to reserve its verdict.
The duo stand accused of fraudulent activities and exploiting political influence to acquire 5,261 kanal of land in the Nawan Kot area of Chaubara tehsil in the Layyah district.
According to the filed First Information Report (FIR), the couple allegedly purchased the land at a significantly lower price of Rs130 million, while its actual value is estimated to be around Rs6 billion.
This land acquisition is of particular significance as it falls along the route of the Greater Thal Canal project, which aims to provide irrigation to the Layyah, Bhakkar, and Jhang areas.
The case includes allegations against the former prime minister, who is accused of leveraging his position as prime minister to assist his sister. The bureau has also claimed that he used his office to facilitate the land acquisition process.
