Sub-campus of UAF to be setup in Narowal to boost agricutre: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning and Development & Special Initiatives Prof Ahsan Iqbal Saturday said that sub-campus of University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) would be setup in Narowal to produce skilled manpower and tangible research work in the area for the promotion of agriculture.

Addressing a ceremony held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), the minister said the Prime Minister Agriculture Package worth Rs1,800 billion is a revolutionary step for rehabilitation and progress of the agriculture sector.

He urged the agricultural scientists to play their role for modernization of agriculture to increase the productivity.

The farmers gathering was part of the eight-day activities on wheat enhancement drive launched by the UAF, the Punjab Agriculture Extension Department and other agricultural universities of the province.

The objective of this drive is to inform the farming community about latest trends to increase the per acre productivity.

“It is a matter of grave concern that despite being an agricultural country, we are importing edible commodities worth billions of rupees,” said the minister.

The minister further added that the country imported three million ton of wheat, edible oil worth four billion ton, cotton, sugarcane and others.

On the occasion, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan stressed the need for promotion of mechanization and latest practices in the agriculture sector to increase wheat production, ensure food security and poverty alleviation.

“Pakistan is blessed with tremendous resources and it is need of the hour to tap the existing potential,” he concluded.
