Swat police bust dacoits gang in guise of tourists

SWAT: The Swat Police busted a dacoit group being run in the guise of tourists in the district, officials informed on Wednesday.

The police chased the five-member gang of dacoits while fleeing after looting a superstore.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Additional SP Arshad Khan said that last evening two unidentified motorcyclists entered Pamir Super Store located at Makanbagh Mingora and tried to loot the shop at gunpoint. The shopkeeper, however, took the opportunity to run away from the shop, which forced the dacoits to flee the scene without any incident.

Mingora Police SHO Mujeeb Alam and Ghaligay Police SHO Habib Said were also present on the occasion.

“On their way, the robbers broke into another superstore at Manyar village in Barikot Tehsil and looted valuables from there”, he informed and added however, the police chased the fleeing dacoits and arrested the accused identified as: Wasif Khattak, Irshad, Shahid, Noman, residents of Bannu and Sheraz resident of Nowshera Kalan.

He said that the gang members had come to Swat on Eidul Azha on the pretext of sightseeing and entertainment. He said further investigation is underway.
