Maryam urges former CJP Nisar to come clean on audio tape

The former top judge has already termed the audio clip fabricated

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday urged former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar to be courageous and tell the nation that who had allegedly pressurised him to convict her and her father Nawaz Sharif.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Maryam, while referring to the alleged leaked audio of former CJP Saqib Nisar, said: “I want to tell Saqib Nisar that he will have to tell the nation the truth. Who forced you to convict Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz? Who asked you to bring Imran Khan [into power]?”

In the clip, which has not been independently verified by Pakistan Today, a voice, allegedly of the former CJP, can be heard saying: “Let me be a little blunt about it. Unfortunately, here it is the institutions that dictate judgements. In this case, we will have to punish Mian sahab (Nawaz Sharif). [I] have been told ‘we have to bring Khan sahab (Imran Khan) [into power].”

Maryam further said that as soon as the audio clip came out, propaganda regarding the clip began to prove that the clip was doctored despite the fact that a very renowned American company did the forensic analysis of the clip.

However, the former CJP has termed the audio fabricated and denied that the voice in the clip is his.

Talking about another leaked audio clip attributed to her regarding advertisements on several TV channels, Maryam admitted that the audio of her instructing the media team not to give advertisements to few channels is real, adding that she will not say that it is edited.

In the viral audio, Maryam was heard giving instructions to the media team to stop advertisements of several TV channels during the PML-N tenure. The daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had said that no advertisement will be given to 24News, 92News, SAMAA and ARY.

AVENFIELD CASE HEARING:

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) accepted the request of Maryam’s lawyer for case adjournment and postponed further hearing on appeals in Avenfield property reference till December 21.

A division bench, comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kayani, heard the appeals of Maryam and her husband Captain (R) Muhammad Safdar against their convictions in above reference.

Maryam’s lawyer Irfan Qadir had moved an application in the IHC two days back, requesting the court to fix another date for hearing due to his engagements in Supreme Court.

The bench accepted the request of Irfan Qadir and adjourned the case without further proceeding till December 21.
