Umar Mahmud Kasuri, the brother of former foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, passed away on Sunday due to ill health.
The deceased hailed from one of the oldest political families of Punjab. His father Mahmud Ali Kasuri served as the leader of the Indian National Congress and then the All-India Muslim League. He was a part of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and played a key role in the formation of the constitution of 1973.
His brother Khurshid served as the foreign minister of Pakistan from November 2002 to November 2007 and is currently the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Task Force on Kashmir and a member of the party’s core committee.
