Kasur has come under the spotlight once more as seven cases of rape emerged in the last 48 hours, including four children.
In one recent incident, seven men from Bheela village raped a woman at gunpoint. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the victim’s husband, who added that these men were trying to force their family out of the village and that this was the second time his wife has been sexually abused by the perpetrators.
The report has been filed at the Sheikhum police station, but the police do not have any suspects yet.
An FIR has also been registered in Sadar, wherein a man attempted to sexually assault his sister-in-law. The man fled when the woman called out for help. Since then, the man has been arrested by the police.
Another case emerged wherein a woman from Gidhpur village was sexually abused by a man in her own home. In this case, the man fled but was soon arrested by the Chunian police.
Another rape incident fell under the Chunian police station’s jurisdiction, and this time the victim was a 15-year-old girl of Noorpur Jattan village. Reportedly, the rapist was from the same village and has now been arrested.
According to reports from Hameed Town, a man had lured his 13-year-old neighbour into his home and subjected the boy to rape. The suspect has been arrested and the investigation is underway.
A similar incident took place at an under-construction house in Bhasarpura, wherein a man brought a 7-year-old boy to the house and raped the child. The suspect is reportedly under arrest at the B-Division police station.
According to the Phoolnagar police station, an FIR has been registered against a man who lured and abused a 4-year-old boy in the fields in Bonga Balochan village. The criminal escaped at the time but has since then been arrested.
In Rati Pindi village, a 12-year-old boy took a 3-year-old to the roof of his house and committed sexual assault. He was spotted by some women in the village and the father of the victim registered the FIR.
These are the latest in a series of rape incidents that have been reported from Kasur. Most notably, there was the 2018 rape and murder of 8-year-old Zainab Amin in Kasur. Along with that, a child pornography ring was uncovered in Hussain Khanwala village in 2015.
In September last year, the city was shaken again when authorities recovered bodies of three minors from sand dunes near Chunian bypass.
In spite of preventative measures being taken, such as the Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Bill, 2019, being passed by the national assembly, and the launch of a locally-developed mobile phone application called ‘Zainab Alert’ by Sindh police, the violence as continued.
An estimated 8 children a day have been victims of sexual crimes in the first half of 2020.
