ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has appointed Mohammad Zubair as the spokesperson for deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, party’s central spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Monday.
In a statement shared through the party’s Twitter account, Aurangzeb said that a spokespersons’ committee would also be formed under the guidance of the party’s primary spokesperson and central information secretary.
Dr Mussadiq Malik, Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, Talal Chaudhry, Uzma Bukhari and Barrister Ataullah Tarar would be part of the committee, the statement added.

The development comes two weeks after Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar, director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), revealed that Zubair had twice reached out to Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss and legal and political woes of the PML-N supreme leader and his daughter in the past few weeks.
The first meeting, Gen Iftikhar said during a television appearance, was held in the last week of August while the second was held on September 7 in the presence of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed. Both the meetings were held on Zubair’s request, he told the programme host.
“In those meetings, he [Zubair] talked about Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz,” the chief military spokesperson had revealed.
The startling revelation further jolted the anti-establishment image of the party whose supreme leader has locked horns with the military, twice accusing the latter of denying working space to the civilian set ups. The revelation had come days after Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed leaked information about meetings of opposition politicians, including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman with the military’s top brass.
In his response, Zubair, who appeared on several talk shows and addressed the disclosure on his Twitter account as well, while confirming the meeting with the army chief, said he had gone to discuss economic vows of the country.
However, the former Sindh governor admitted, Sharif and his daughter did come up for discussion.
“Gen Qamar Bajwa is an old friend and not only that I have met him many times as a friend but our families have also been meeting cordially over dinners etc. In my most recent meeting with him economy, politics and, of course, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, all came under discussion. No relief was ever requested,” he had tweeted.
