KARACHI: Renowned religious scholar Allama Dr Syed Zameer Akhtar Naqvi passed away at the age of 76 on Sunday.
He was shifted to a private hospital in Karachi after suffering from a heart attack late on Saturday.
His funeral prayer was offered at Ancholi Imambargah after the Maghrib prayers.
Allama Dr Syed Zameer Akhtar Naqvi was born in the Indian city of Lucknow on March 24, 1944. He had a PhD from the University of Karachi. A khatib and poet, he wrote dozens of books, including on poetry and elegy, as well as a two-volume biography on Hazrat Qasim ibn Hassan (AS). His book, Meraj Khattabat, consists of five volumes. He also wrote and spoke extensively about the events of Karbala.
The religious scholar was also known across Pakistan and the world for lectures on science, history, and philosophy.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail expressed sadness over the popular scholar’s demise, his spokesperson said, adding that he prayed for Allama Dr Syed Zameer Akhtar Naqvi’s forgiveness and elevation of ranks. “May God grant patience to his bereaved family,” Ismail said.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, expressing profound grief over the sudden demise of the prominent scholar, said that he worked for sectarian harmony. He always talked about humanity and their rights, he added.
The chief minister prayed for the departed soul that may Allah rest him in eternal peace and grant courage to the aggrieved family to bear this irreparable loss.
