PESHAWAR: Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information Ajmal Wazir on Saturday said that the high incidence of coronavirus deaths in the province is because people seek treatment for the virus “too late”.
Responding to a question by the Special Assitant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcast Firdous Ashiq Awan during a video conference, Shahwani said that the province also has a significant number of cases because it has the highest number of people arriving from abroad.
“We had a lot of people arriving from Taftan who were quarantined at three places. We had very little testing capacity. We started at 20 tests per day which has increased to 1,000 tests daily,” he said.
Separately, earlier in the day, a senior doctor at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar passed away of coronavirus.
According to a director of the hospital, Dr Mohammad Javed, an ENT (ears, nose and throat) specialist, had been diagnosed with Covid-19 a week ago and was on a ventilator ever since.
“He had been fighting on the front lines to combat the coronavirus,” the director added.
