KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that the Sindh chief secretary could not issue any notification without the provincial government’s permission, adding that the notification regarding the working of Tiger Force was also issued the provincial government’s will.
In a statement here on Monday, the provincial minister said that the Tiger Force issue has been blown out of proportion as the Sindh government was ready to facilitate the volunteers.
“We were only objecting over the name ‘Tiger Force’. It would have been better if it had been given another name, but anyhow, if it works for the welfare of the people, then we had no objection, in fact, the Sindh government would facilitate its members as much as it can,” he said, adding that the media should try to ignore controversial issues.
Shah clarified that there was no disagreement or any kind between members of the Sindh government and Sindh cabinet regarding the Tiger Force. He said that if the volunteers work for the welfare of the people of the province, then they would not be stopped at any level.
Explaining the reason for the objection over the volunteer force’s name, he said that a sub-organisation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had been named Tiger Force during the elections, therefore, when they reused the name, not only the PPP but the other political parties also expressed their reservations as they believe the force should have a countrywide unifying name that is not associated with any party.
The provincial minister said that leaders of other parties, including him, still believed that it was better if the force was given another name.
He further said that the proper procedure, which had also been validated by the World Health Organisation (WHO), under which the coronavirus tests were being conducted in Sindh province, was not being followed in other provinces. Referring to the allegations of the opposition leaders in the province, the provincial minister said that he did not think it appropriate to respond to them.
He said the Sindh government was facing a serious situation right now in the form of the spread of coronavirus, so all the focus of the government was on saving people’s lives. He said that opposition leaders could continue levelling their accusations, but the Sindh government wanted to keep its focus on saving the lives of the people.
Shah said that Sindh government was well aware of all the problems of the business community, adding that, they would be facilitated by giving relief in all kinds of taxes and in whatever other ways possible.
“Once the Sindh government succeeds in saving people’s lives, the next target would be the revival of the economy,” the minister said.
He expressed the hope and confidence that the government with the cooperation of people would soon be successful in the complete elimination of coronavirus from the province.
