ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointment of Nausheen Javaid Amjad, a BS-22 officer of the Inland Revenue Service (IRS), as the new chairperson of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in replacement of body’s previous head Syed Shabbar Zaidi, it emerged on Monday.

The notification, dated April 3, said: “The honorary/pro bono appointment of Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi, as Chairman, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), may be terminated with immediate effect.”
It added: “Ms. Nausheen Javaid Amjad (BS-22), presently posted as Member (Admn), FBR may be transferred and appointed/posted as Chairperson of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), with immediate effect.”
The official order further said that Prime Minister Imran, being the minister in charge of the Establishment Division, has seen and authorised placement of this summary before the federal cabinet for approval.
Javaid was working as acting chief of the top revenue collecting body in the absence of its former head, Zaidi, who had gone on an indefinite leave in January on medical grounds.
At that time, speculations ran rife that Zaidi had been replaced as a result of his tussle with Adviser to the Prime Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. However, Zaidi and Shaikh both refuted the rumors.
