LAHORE: The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has developed eight new pre-feasibility studies focusing on food and beverages, marble and granite, agriculture, services, minerals and trading sectors.
An official of SMEDA informed this scribe that the studies were developed keeping in view the potential of these businesses, market space and opportunities for SMEs.
According to data available with this scribe, a pre-feasibility study was developed in the service sector from the Balochistan region to start a project of a sub-contract workshop. According to the study, a business can be started with an amount of Rs3.78 million.
Similarly, another study in the marble and granite sector was developed by the Sindh region to start the business of onyx product manufacturing. The study proposed an amount of Rs5.98 million to start a business.
In the agriculture sector, a study developed by the Sindh region stated that a Rhodes grass hay business can be started with an amount of Rs16.70 million whereas in the same sector another study from the Balochistan region suggested an estimated cost of Rs11.62 million for starting a saffron cultivation business.
In the services sector, a study was developed to start small to medium scale distribution agencies from the Sindh region with an amount of Rs22.26 million.
Moreover, from the Balochistan region, a study was developed in the food and beverage sector to start a sausage production unit with a budget of Rs26.02 million whereas in the same sector a study was also developed by the Sindh region to start a hard candy manufacturing business within Rs11.62 million.
Similarly, in the trading sector, the Sindh region developed a pre-feasibility study to start a superstore business with an estimated budget of Rs28.02 million.
An official of SMEDA informed this scribed that a total of 144 feasibility studies were developed, with most being developed during 2016, 2017 and 2018.
SMEDA’s Media Advisor Liaqat Ali Gohar said that pre-feasibility studies provide a detailed overview of a potential business that can be started by an aspiring SME. “It also summarizes the requirements in terms of capital, supply chain and other information deemed important for the decision-making process. SMEDA, over the years, has developed almost 300 pre-feasibility studies in different sectors. These studies provide information regarding setting up a particular business, its technical requirements, ideal locations, investment and human resource requirement, raw material and other inputs, etc. We also developed and upgraded 84 studies for Kamyab Jawan Programme,” he said.
