ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sidra Anwar called upon people of all religions and walks of life to observe Christmas Day with reverence and to inculcate the spirit of the august occasion in the young generation.
The Islamabad AC, said this in a ceremony held in connection with the upcoming Christmas day.
Christmas day is a religious occasion that celebrates the life, teachings and sacrifices of Jesus Christ and teaches us to care for the poor and needy, she said.
Christ spread the word of God and gave his life for the betterment of humanity, she added.
Mahreen Waseem, president of the NGO (Non-Government Organisation), Aimal, while speaking on the occasion said that serving fellow human beings is the most important message of Christmas.
Waseem lamented the prevalence of religious intolerance in society and regretted that there are misconceptions attached to the religious occasion among some people in Pakistan.
She also added that in an effort to promote cleanliness in society “Aimal” is working to train and provide hygienic working environment for sanity workers.
“Aimal will also distribute 150 ration bags and gift among the poorer segments of society,” she said.
Basharat Khokhar, the president Community Development Foundation (CDF) said that it was regretful that the incumbent government was not paying due attention to the woes of the Christian community as many Christian government officials are not being granted bonuses or pray grants for the occasion.
He further said that Christmas should be celebrated as a national holiday throughout the country and that awareness about the occasion and the teachings of Christ should be promoted on national media.
