IGP calls for swift crackdown on crime

LAHORE: Punjab Inspector-General of Police Shoaib Dastgir has sought reports of action taken against criminal elements across the province and has also directed the respective Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to initiate speedy crackdown on crime.

In this regard, Chiniot DPO Syed Husna Haider while sharing the monthly progress of Chiniot police under his supervision said that police is working to maintain law and order.

Community policing, timely justice, protection of people’s lives and property are among top priorities of police and in this regard, at least 302 accused have been arrested including 132 proclaimed offenders while large quantities of illegal arms and drugs have been seized during the past one month.

Likewise, 48 cases have been registered against drugs dealers and 52 suspects have been detained. Over 12 kg hashish, 937-litre alcohol, and have also been recovered, while several alcohol kilns have been sealed by police during this time.

Moreover, in other cases over 28 criminals have been arrested and 13 pistols, 10 guns, four rifles and one revolver with 86 bullets have been recovered from them.

Upon violation of the amplifier act, cases have been registered against eight suspects, while 36 persons have been arrested for illegal sale of petrol. 17 persons have been arrested for power theft, two have been arrested for water theft, and eight persons arrested for using fake number plates.

District police also recovered money amounting to over 40 lac rupees which was apparently stolen during incidents of thefts.

The Chiniot DPO further said that as per directions of Punjab IGP Shoaib Dastgir, search operations and snap checking are being boosted. He further directed police to conduct operations with utmost care and vigilance so as not to disrupt daily lives of law-abiding citizens.
