The country’s most celebrated social worker Edhi, who founded the Edhi Foundation that runs the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network, along with homeless shelters, animal shelter, rehab centres, and orphanages across Pakistan, passed away in 2016.
Earlier, an online petition to rename the airport after Edhi had also been tabled. Within 24 hours, the petition had received endorsements from 21,000 Pakistanis.
“Simply a case of merit, no one deserves more than Abdul Sattar Edhi after whom this airport be named… His services to humanity are unmatchable,” the petitioner had said while sharing the reason behind his move.
