RAWALPINDI: Lieutenant General Asim Munir has been appointed as the new director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the Inter-Services Press Relations (ISPR) announced in a press release on Wednesday.
Lt Gen Munir has previously served as the Director General of Military Intelligence (MI).
His appointment comes after the retirement of Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar on October.
Mukhtar, who retired after 35 years of service, had become the spy chief in 2016 when he was transferred to the head the Intelligence Directorate. He was serving as the Karachi Corps Commander before that.
The military’s media wing also announced key appointments of lieutenant generals.
Lt Gen Azhar Saleh Abbasi has been appointed as Chief of Logistics Staff at the General Headquarters, Lt Gen Nadeem Zaki as Mangla Corps Commander, Lt Gen Shaheen Mazher as Peshawar Corps Commander, Lt Gen Abdul Aziz as Military Secretary at GHQ, Lt Gen Muhammad Adnan as Vice Chief of General Staff (VCGS) (B), and Lt Gen Waseem Ashraf as Inspector General Arms.

Earlier in September, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa along with the Lt Gen Mukhtar had met PM Khan to discuss the appointment of the new ISI chief.
