Around 75 infants among every 1000 die in Punjab before their first birthday and recent statistics show that the percentage has increased due to lack ignorance and lack of awareness of child and mother’s health.

The alarming number of deaths have concerned the health department which has announced an awareness week on mother and child help and nutrition from October 1 to 6.

The purpose of the drive is to cater to the growing problem of malnutrition and immunise the children against diseases.

Mother and Child Health and Nutrition Program (IRMNCH&NP) Project Director Dr Syed Mukhtar Hussain Shah said that during the awareness week the organisations teams will reach more than 10 million children, minor girls and one million pregnant women in a door-to-door drive.

He added that pregnant women will be provided iron and folic acid free of cost.
