Saudi authorities tight-lipped over reports of Makkah imam’s detention

Prisoners of Conscience, a social media advocacy group on Sunday said that Sheikh Saleh was arrested after his sermon regarding religious duty to publicly speak out against evil.

An Al Jazeera report on Wednesday cited a Khaleej Online report stating that the imam had “derided the mixing of unrelated men and women at concerts and other mixed entertainment events” in his sermon.

According to reports, the imam’s twitter accounts were also deactivated after his alleged arrest.

Previously, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman had said that “We have extremists who forbid mixing between the two sexes and are unable to differentiate between a man and a woman alone together and their being together in a work place. Many of those ideas contradict the way of life during the time of the Prophet (PBUH).”
