The slot of the Punjab chief minister is still empty due to internal rifts, grouping and unavailability of a suitable candidate from within the party.
According to a local media report, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has summoned a meeting on Wednesday with the Punjab parliamentary party, however, the nomination of a suitable candidate seems unlikely, even now.
PTI’s Central Media Department head Iftikhar Durrani was quoted in the report saying, “There are no chances that the parliamentary party would nominate a candidate for the next Punjab chief minister.”
During the July 25 polls, the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) emerged victorious as the largest party in Punjab, followed by PTI that came second. The party is now in a comfortable position to form the next provincial government with the help of independent candidates elected to the Punjab Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q), one of the coalition partners of PTI.
Since the party’s victory, PTI Chairman Imran Khan has held various meetings in Bani Gala to decide a candidate for the Punjab chief minister slot, however, the position still remains vacant.
