The eight-year-old boy Ameer Hamza went missing on Wednesday and his body was later discovered by his family near their house. The boy’s father, Sajjad Ahmed is a Pakistani expatriate in Spain.
The group of protesters, composed primarily of women, have demanded the arrest of suspects and have accused the police of not including kidnap and rape sections in the case. The protesters claim the police should have considered accusations of rape or rape-attempts. However, doctors are yet to confirm if the eight-year-old was sexually abused before the murder.
The protesters eventually dispersed after they were informed by the police that an 18-year-old man belonging to the same village has now been arrested.
The forensic reports have been delivered to a forensic lab for analysis as the autopsy report failed to provide enough evidence to ascertain rape, according to Gujrat Sadar DSP (Deputy Superintendent Police) Irfanul Haq Sulehria. He added that rape sections would be included in the charges if proved by the forensic report.
While the identity of the suspect has not yet been revealed and the police has not confirmed if he has actually been apprehended, the suspect has reportedly confessed to the murder.
