KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday observed that Karachi would become a jungle of concrete if the construction of the six-storey buildings is allowed in every area.
The apex court bench comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali was hearing an application seeking an interpretation of its earlier order that allowed the construction of maximum six-storey buildings.
Earlier, the apex court on the plea of Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) had lifted the ban on construction of high-rise buildings.
The court explained that its earlier directives that allowed two-storey buildings were for specific areas, ruling that the ban on more than two-storey buildings is still in place in most parts of the city.
Earlier, the apex court, while hearing the case pertaining to provision of pure drinking water and sanitation issues, in March 2017 had imposed a ban on construction of multi-storey building until the issues were resolved
