CDA all set to launch grand anti-encroachment operation

  • Help from police, Rangers sought to avoid any untoward incident

ISLAMABAD: CDA Member Estate, Khushal Khattak, has sought the assistance of Islamabad Chief Commissioner Aftab Akbar Durrani and IGP Sultan Azam Taimoori to remove the illegal occupation from the acquired land of ‘Right of Way’ (ROW) of Kashmir Highway encroached along the sector G-12.

In a letter addressed to the chiefs of police and district administration, the member estate wrote that “CDA intends to restore acquired land of ROW of Kashmir Highway, Sector G-12, whereby various structures have been raised in defiance to CDA Ordinance-1960, and also encroached upon acquired ROW. Besides, these entrepreneurs have also illegally got direct accesses from main Kashmir Highway”.

The letter further said that along with personnel and equipment, magisterial cover and reserve force to avert any untoward incident is also required.

Ali Javed has been nominated by the district administration to provide the magisterial cover whereas two companies of Rangers along with two reserves equipped with anti-riot kits will also be present.

It is pertinent to mention here that the sector G-12 is an anomaly as it does not come under the ambit of CDA and is, till date, occupied by the original settlers. The locals call it ‘Meeran Abadi’ and it expands all the way to Golra Sharif.

Despite various operations in the past, the district administration has not yet succeeded in acquiring the lands from the locals and developing it as a sector.

During the last few years, the mushroom growth of restaurants and marquees in the area initiated a new trend of connecting the buildings with main Kashmir Highway. In the past, it had not only resulted in inconvenience for commuters but also accidents.

The operation will commence on March 20 (Tuesday).
