KARACHI: The Indus Valley School (IVS) of Art and Architecture made Australian artist Michael Esson’s famous work named “Searching for the turtles in the Paradise” as part of its 25th convocation ceremony held at the IVS Gallery the other day in Karachi.
The event was organized in collaboration with Vasl Artists’ Association in which Esson’s work was exhibited for the students who had recently graduated from IVS.
Eight years ago, Michael Esson had visited the beaches of Karachi in an attempt to witness the marine turtles crawling back into the ocean after laying their eggs. He had then portrayed this phenomenon through his paintings contributing to the world of conceptual arts.
Michael Esson is an eminent figure in the world of drawing, both as an academic and art practitioner. Esson was born in Scotland in 1950 and studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, Edinburgh College of Art and the Royal College of Art, London. He is a practicing artist living in Sydney and was the inaugural director of the International Drawing Research Institute at Compact of Free Association.
