Women activists vow to uphold struggle initiated by Asma Jahangir

KARACHI: Women attending a seminar to mark National Women Day 2018 here on Monday committed to sustain and promote the struggle initiated by human rights activist Asma Jahangir for democracy and rule of law in the country.

The event was organized by Sindh Commission on Women Status and addressed by Sindh Chief Minister’s Advisor Shamim Mumtaz, CM Special Assistant Irum Khalid, Human Rights Commission Chairperson Majida Rizvi, Aurat Foundation Resident Director Mahnaz Rehman, Sindh Commission on Women Status Chairperson Nuzhat Shirin, Women Development Director Mussarat Jabeen and activists Farhat Parveen, Rahima Panwhar, Rahila Rahim and Mangla Sharma.

Paying tribute to the former Supreme Court Bar Council president and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan founding president who passed away in Lahore on Sunday, participants from different walks of life and varied parts of Sindh said that the spirit to achieve equity in society would be sustained at every cost.

They further vowed that the precedent set by Asma Jahangir, for the cause of democracy as well as for empowerment of marginalized sections must be adopted as a collective responsibility by all conscientious citizens of the country.
