LAHORE: Central leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Member National Assembly Hamza Shehbaz on Friday said the continuity of a democratic and political system is vital for sustainable development in the country and general elections should be held on time.
He expressed these views while talking to American Consul General Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau, who called on him at his office in Model Town.
In the meeting, matters of mutual interest came under discussion and both exchanged views on the current political situation of the country and the emerging scenarios.
Hamza said that Pakistan has its own position in the present geopolitical circumstances. “We took part in the war against terrorism and bore heavy losses within the last three decades,” he added.
He also briefed the envoy about the projects launched in various sectors. Far-flung areas have been given priority for the provision of civic facilities and many projects have been launched in southern Punjab as well, said Hamza while listing various future projects that would improve the living standards of the people.
The US consul general said that she had been hearing about the PML-N government’s good governance and performance of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. She also talked about different projects launched through cooperation between Pakistan and the US and expressed her country’s determination to fortify the bilateral relations.
US Political Officer Ann Mason and Legal Advisor Ali Raza Shah were also present during the meeting.
