PML is with the doctors in their genuine demands: Elahi

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior central leader Ch Parvez Elahi has said that his party is with the doctors in their genuine demands and that suppression and oppression needs to stop.

Talking to a delegation of office-bearers of the Young Doctors Association (YDA), which called on him at his residence on Tuesday, he said that the rulers will certainly come in the grip of Almighty Allah and they will also have to account for maltreatment with the doctors and the patients.

He said that earlier, the Punjab government had destroyed education by privatising schools and now government hospitals are also being leased out to favourites of Shehbaz Sharif on contract. He said that his government had made the board of directors of the hospitals autonomous.

The delegation included Senior Vice-President Dr Atif Chaudhry, Dr Shoaib Niazi, Joint Secretary Dr Anjum Baloch, Senior Vice-President Hassan Awan, General Secretary Gujrat Dr Naqqash, Dr Zeeshan Lashari and Dr Durrab among others.

Dr Atif Chaudhry said that Shehbaz Sharif is utilizing health budget on development projects whereas, during Pervez Elahi’s tenure, doctors were getting their rights. He said that when in 2008, doctors were not given their rights, the YDA came into existence.

He said that their demands are that conditions in the hospitals be improved and more doctors recruited on a permanent basis through the Public Service Commission instead of an ad hoc basis.
