More than 70 lawyers hailing from Gilgit-Baltistan have approved a motion asking GB chief minister to intervene and halt the covert attempts currently underway to illegally regularise prosecutors, originally hired on contract basis.
According to the motion, a certain influential group is trying to get various prosecutors hired in Gilgit-Baltistan in Grade 16, 17 and 18 purely on contract basis for one year. The Gilgit-Baltistan Lawyers Forum, a representative body of lawyers has expressed its concerns.
The lawyers alleged that in order to provide the whole regularisation a legal cover a bill was being prepared for approval from GB Legislative Assembly. ‘Any attempt to regularise the contract employees is not only against the service laws but also a grave violation of Chief Minister Hafeez-ur-Rehman’s manifesto that is supremacy of merit,’ it reads.
Furthermore, the motion emphasised that the said act was unconstitutional, illegal and immoral and if it was done it would pronounce doom and gloom for the area. ‘We ask Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Hafeez ur Rehman to not only stop such elements but also discourage them,’ it read.
The lawyers also demanded that Gilgit-Baltistan CM, chief secretary and law secretary should fill the vacancies through Federal Public Services Commission and warned that in case the prosecutors on contract were regularise the legal fraternity of Gilgit-Baltistan would protest in all districts of GB and in front of National Assembly.
The copies of the motion have been sent to prime minister of Pakistan, GB CM, chief secretary, chief justices of supreme appellate court, minister for law gilgit-baltistan, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and others.
