At least 85 percent of world’s illegal trade of kidneys happens in Pakistan, revealed in National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Rules and Regulations on Friday.
The meeting of the committee was informed that prominent politicians and hospitals are involved in the organ trafficking business.
Member of National Assembly Babar Nawaz stated that a foreign billionaire in Pakistan gave Rs40,000 to a girl for her kidney.
The billionaire told the girl to be thankful for receiving the money although she will only live for six months now, said the MNA.
He notified that they were offered Rs2 crore and a car as a for not exposing the matter.
The MNA also pronounced that new laws against the illegal business have been proposed according to which the hospitals behind the organ trafficking will be fined Rs5 crore whereas the assets of the doctors’ relatives will be confiscated.
