Minister of State for Education and Professional Training Baleeghur Rehman Friday informed the National Assembly that 37 lecturers are working on contract and ad hoc basis in federal government universities.
Speaking during Question Hour in the House, the minister said that 12 contract lecturers are working in Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), 18 in Islamic International University Islamabad (IIUI) and two in Quaid-e-AzamUniversity. Five lecturers are working on ad hoc basis in IIUI, he said.
He said that contract was necessary to evaluate their performance. Whenever permanent job opportunity comes in the institutions, the contract and ad hoc lecturers were given preference, he said.
The minister said that 450 lecturers were appointed on temporary /daily wages basis in educational institutions under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
In federal government universities only lecturers specialising in their respective fields are appointed on contract basis and they are playing an important role in the higher education system, the minister reportedly said.
He added that regular appointments may help to further enhance the standards of education in the institutions of higher learning.
