Case against Musharraf, Zardari not LHC’s cup of tea

Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Sheikh Imtiaz on Tuesday denied hearing a constitutional petition demanding stern action against former army chief Pervez Musharraf, former president Asif Ali Zardari and former attorney general Justice (r) Malik Qayyum as per judgment of the superior judiciary in Swiss cases.

The judge was hearing the petition moved by lawyer Syed Feroze Shah Gilani. The judge forwarded the case file to the LHC chief justice for fixation before presenting it to another appropriate bench for hearing.

The petitioner submitted that Musharraf had promulgated a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to end corruption cases in Switzerland against Zardari. He stated that Musharraf had given protection to Zardari who later became president of Pakistan.

He pointed out that Justice (r) Malik Qayyum had also written a letter to the Swiss authorities to close the cases in violation of the Supreme Court orders. Former president Asif Zardari, in his tenure had also not obeyed the judicial orders issued in the NRO implementation case, the lawyer contended.

The petitioner requested the court to issue directions to the federal government to implement the apex court orders in NRO case and to initiate action against them.
