Five people were injured in a clash between two rival student organisations at the University of Karachi (KU) campus on Monday.
Dozens of students of the Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) and the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organisation (APMSO) attacked each other resulting in injuries to three APMSO and two IJT activists.
Pakistan Rangers reached the campus and brought the situation under control.
Some clashing students were arrested but later released.
“Our activist, Saleem Akhter, was kidnapped by the APMSO from the KU two days ago, and released him after torture near the Sir Syed University,” the IJT spokesman told Pakistan Today.
“The APMSO activists attacked IJT activists, and injured two students,” he alleged.
However, the APMSO pinned the blame on the IJT.
“They [IJT] want to impose their own version of Islam in the society,” the APMSO spokesman told Pakistan Today.
He said the IJT wants to turn the KU campus into Wana and Wazristan by attacking couples at the campus.
