Centuries-old statues discovered during Karachi market renovation

KARACHI: Workers carrying out renovation work at Lea Market in Karachi have uncovered a collection of historic statues believed to date back several centuries, prompting authorities to begin an archaeological assessment of the site.

The discovery was made during excavation work as part of the market’s restoration project. Officials halted construction in the affected area after the statues were unearthed to prevent any damage to the artefacts.

Experts from the Department of Archaeology and other relevant authorities have been called in to examine the findings and determine their historical significance, age and origin.

Officials said the statues could provide valuable insight into the region’s cultural and historical heritage, although a final assessment will only be possible after detailed examination.
