Assam flood deaths rise to 41 as more than 700,000 people affected
Flooding in India’s Assam has pushed the death toll to 41 after 10 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Officials said more than 700,000 people have been affected and three are still missing.
NEW DELHI: Flooding in India’s northeastern state of Assam has killed 41 people after 10 more deaths were recorded over the past 24 hours, according to state officials on Wednesday.
A statement issued by the State Disaster Management Authority said the latest fatalities were reported from five districts. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the floods have affected more than 700,000 people, while three people remain missing.
Sarma said the scale of the disaster had extended into areas that had not previously seen such severe consequences from similar weather events.

The chief minister’s office said all departments had been instructed to stay continuously present in the field and to speed up rescue, relief, restoration and rehabilitation work until affected families are reached and normal conditions are restored.
