Eid barbecue gatherings continue over weekend

ISLAMABAD: Eidul Azha festivities continued in the federal capital over the weekend after the official holidays ended, with residents holding barbecue gatherings using sacrificial meat at homes, rooftops, farmhouses and other private venues.

Across different parts of Islamabad, families, friends and neighbours came together for extended celebrations centred on grilled dishes prepared from beef and mutton. The gatherings featured items such as tikka, seekh kebabs, grilled chops and other traditional Pakistani foods cooked over charcoal.

Residents said the trend reflected both the availability of sacrificial meat and a desire to spend more time with loved ones beyond the formal Eid break. Speaking to the media, Daniyal, a resident of Sector I-8, said that although Eid had ended officially, the sense of togetherness among relatives and friends was continuing. He said such gatherings offered another chance to share meals and celebrate the blessings of Eidul Azha, adding that he was also planning a barbecue with friends later in the evening.

Vendors linked to the activity also reported sustained demand. Raza, a seller in Sector I-8, said sales of charcoal and other barbecue supplies had remained strong since Eid day and were still continuing. He said demand for essentials such as charcoal, skewers and grilling materials had stayed high as residents continued to organise outdoor meals and social get-togethers.

Young people were described as among the most active participants in the post-Eid gatherings, arranging evening cookouts and social events that continued late into the night. Tabinda, a university student living in Sector G-6, said the gatherings offered a welcome break from routine life.
