Drone strike hits Bajaur cricket ground, leaves three injured

BAJAUR: A drone attack targeting a Cricket ground in Shahi Tangi area of Mamund tehsil in Bajaur left three people injured on Friday, according to local sources.

The attack occurred while a match was in progress, triggering panic among players and spectators. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Authorities said security forces quickly cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace those responsible. Security across the area has been heightened following the incident.

Local residents and tribal elders strongly condemned the attack, calling for decisive action against militants linked to “Fitna al-Khawarij,” which officials say have previously used quadcopters in attacks on civilian targets.

Officials noted that such tactics, including drone strikes on soft targets, reflect a shift toward asymmetric methods by militant groups operating in the border region.

The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in parts of northwestern Pakistan, where authorities continue efforts to counter militant activity and protect civilian populations.
