Fire destroys wooden pallets warehouse in Karachi’s SITE Area

KARACHI: A fire broke out at a warehouse storing wooden pallets in Karachi’s SITE Area on Sunday, destroying a large quantity of timber, pallets and other materials, while also damaging a vehicle parked inside the premises, officials said.

According to officials, the blaze erupted suddenly at the warehouse, which falls within the jurisdiction of the SITE Area B police station, and spread rapidly.

After receiving information about the incident, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Fire Brigade dispatched five fire tenders to the site and began firefighting efforts.

Officials said firefighters continued the operation for nearly three hours before bringing the blaze under control. Cooling work was then carried out to stop the fire from reigniting.

Rescue officials said a substantial quantity of wooden stock and other goods was reduced to ashes in the incident. A vehicle present inside the warehouse also suffered damage.

No casualties were reported in the fire, according to rescue authorities.

Cause and losses yet to be determined

Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said the warehouse was being used to store wooden platforms designed to support heavy machinery.

He said the exact cause of the fire could not be determined immediately, while the scale of the financial losses had yet to be assessed. The incident resulted in extensive damage to the stored material, but officials said no injuries or deaths occurred.

Authorities continued post-fire cooling operations after the flames were contained, as part of efforts to prevent any flare-up at the warehouse.

The fire was reported from an industrial area warehouse in SITE, where combustible wooden material had been stored in large quantities. Fire brigade teams remained engaged until the situation was brought under control.

Officials have not yet determined what triggered the blaze, and an estimate of the monetary damage was still pending at the time the details were shared.
