Police recover around 40 maunds of dead chicken in Jatoi

MULTAN: Police recovered a large quantity of dead chicken during routine vehicle checking in Tehsil Jatoi on Saturday and arrested the driver, according to police.

The recovery was made after patrolling personnel set up a picket at Head Bikani as part of regular checking of vehicles passing through the area. During the operation, officials noticed a suspicious vehicle standing among a line of vehicles and said it was emitting a foul smell.

Police inspected the vehicle and found approximately 40 maunds of dead chicken loaded in its rear compartment. The driver was taken into custody at the scene.

Authorities said a case had been registered against the driver following the recovery. Police added that an investigation was under way to identify any other people involved in the transportation of the dead chicken.

Police said the inquiry would also seek to determine where the meat was being taken. No further details about the driver’s identity or the intended destination were provided in the report.

The recovery took place during what police described as routine vehicle checking in Tehsil Jatoi. Officials said the suspicious vehicle drew attention because of the smell coming from it, prompting a search that led to the seizure.

According to police, the dead chicken was being transported in the back portion of the vehicle. The quantity recovered was estimated at around 40 maunds.

Police said efforts were continuing to trace others who may have been connected to the alleged illegal transportation. The case has been formally registered, and further investigation is in progress.
